A full crowd gathered at the Brockville Legion Tuesday night to celebrate Bruce Wylie’s retirement from a 55-year career in local radio. Wylie first went on air in Brockville in 1971 and has since helped raise millions for community causes. He and his wife, Eileen Wylie, were thanked for decades of service as the community marked the end of an era.
Wayne Rostad, a celebrated Canadian musician, television host, and philanthropist said what Bruce is known as in the music community far and wide.
MPP of Leeds-Grenville-Thousand Islands and Rideau Lakes, Steve Clark said Bruce has always put community first.
Brockville Mayor Matt Wren provided Bruce with the highest symbolic recognition that any city can offer.
Jon Pole, President of our parent company, the My Broadcasting Corporation said Bruce is a legend and honoured him with a special plaque that will sit outside the 104.9 MyFM studio forever.
Brockville City Councillor, Jeff Earle gifted Bruce with a street sign titled, “Bruce Wylie Way” that will go in a brand new subdivision in the city’s north end.
Eileen talked about her husband as someone who is kind, thoughtful and generous beyond measure.
And last but certainly not least, Bruce. After John F. Kennedy was assassinated in 1963, a young, impressionable Bruce Wylie watched his inauguration speech, and took away one part that stuck with him for his entire 55-year career.
Wishing Bruce all the best in his well-deserved retirement.
