According to Earthquakes Canada, a minor earthquake struck parts of Eastern Ontario early this afternoon.
The quake occurred at approximately 12:36 p.m., with tremors reported in several communities across the region, including areas west of Ottawa and into the Ottawa Valley.
It registered a magnitude of 3.9 at a depth of 13 kilometres, with its epicentre located about 20 kilometres northeast of Shawville, Quebec.
While the strongest shaking was reported closer to the Ottawa Valley, earthquakes of this size can sometimes be felt at greater distances, including parts of Eastern Ontario.
The region has experienced seismic activity in the past, including a magnitude 5.2 earthquake recorded in the same general area in 2013.
There are no immediate reports of injuries or significant property damage at this time. Residents who felt the tremor are encouraged to report their experience to Earthquakes Canada.
