Environment Canada has issued a yellow advisory for heavy fog and a special weather statement for the region, warning of hazardous travel conditions due to dense fog and additional rainfall.
Near-zero visibility is expected in areas of dense fog this morning, with conditions forecast to improve by late morning as the fog gradually dissipates. Motorists are being advised that visibility may be suddenly reduced at times, creating dangerous driving conditions.
In addition, the region could receive up to 20 millimetres of rain, with locally higher amounts possible. The rainfall is expected to end by this evening, but multiple rounds of showers and embedded thunderstorms may develop throughout the day.
Officials note that recent heavy rainfall has left the ground near saturation, limiting its ability to absorb additional moisture. As a result, water pooling on roads and in low-lying areas is likely, increasing the risk of localized flooding.
Drivers are urged to avoid flooded roadways and use caution. Residents are encouraged to monitor updates from local conservation authorities and Ontario’s flood information resources.
