Residents of Leeds and Grenville, including Gananoque and Township of Leeds and Thousand Islands, will have several opportunities this year to safely dispose of household hazardous waste free of charge.
Household Hazardous Waste Day events are being held at multiple locations between July and October 2026, allowing residents to drop off materials that should not be placed in regular garbage.
Accepted items include batteries, propane tanks, antifreeze, gas and oil containers, paint and paint-related products, pesticides, fertilizers, pharmaceuticals, sharps, pool chemicals, and household cleaning products such as aerosols, bleach, and ammonia.
Officials note that ammunition, explosives, flares, construction waste, tires, electronics, appliances, commercial waste, and materials containing mercury are not accepted.
Collection events run from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Locations include the Lombardy Fair Grounds on July 4, S. Leeds County Patrol Garages and the Delta Fair Grounds on August 15, and the Spencerville Fair Grounds and Grenville County Patrol Garage on October 24.
Waste will only be accepted from Leeds and Grenville residents. For more information, residents can contact 613‑342‑3840, extension 2425.
