Gananoque Fire Service is praising students and staff at St. Joseph Catholic School in Gananoque after a successful fire drill conducted last week.
Fire crews say the evacuation was completed quickly and safely, with students and staff responding exactly as expected in a real emergency situation. Officials noted that two students even assisted by activating the fire alarm pull station as part of the drill, helping to kick off the exercise under supervision.
Firefighters say practicing drills like this is an important part of emergency preparedness, ensuring everyone knows how to respond calmly and efficiently if a real incident occurs.
Following the school visit, crews also stopped by the Thousand Islands Daycare Centre, where they were welcomed by staff and children for a fire truck tour.
Officials say community education and early exposure to emergency services help build confidence and strengthen fire safety awareness from a young age.
