Residents across Leeds and Grenville are being reminded of several closures and schedule changes for the Victoria Day long weekend.
Township of Leeds and Thousand Islands offices and waste sites will be closed Monday, May 18 for the holiday. As a result, curbside waste collection in Lansdowne will move to Tuesday, May 19. Gananoque Town Hall will also be closed Monday, reopening Tuesday morning at 8:30 a.m. Waste and recycling collection in Gananoque will continue on its regular Tuesday and Friday schedule.
LCBO locations will also be closed on Victoria Day, while some local grocery stores will remain open with varying holiday hours. The Lansdowne Freshmart is expected to operate on its regular schedule.
Meanwhile, the Canada Border Services Agency is urging travellers to plan ahead before crossing into Canada during the busy long weekend. Officials recommend having travel documents ready, checking border wait times, and declaring all goods purchased abroad to help reduce delays.
The CBSA also reminds travellers that cannabis cannot legally cross the border without Health Canada authorization and warns strict rules remain in place for firearms, fireworks, and certain food products.
Officials say Mondays are typically the busiest travel days at border crossings.
