Council in the Township of Leeds and Thousand Islands has approved the recipients of the 2026 Youth Bursary Awards following a competitive application process.
Township staff reviewed 18 submissions before selecting three local youth to receive awards valued at $1,000, $600, and $400.
Officials say applicants were evaluated based on several criteria, including academic achievement, civic engagement, leadership, extracurricular involvement, and references.
The bursary program is designed to recognize and encourage young people who make positive contributions within their schools and communities.
Council approved the recommendations during a recent meeting, with a formal cheque presentation planned for a council meeting in June.
Township officials say the strong number of applications highlights the many talented and community-minded youth living throughout Leeds and Thousand Islands.
