Correctional Service Canada says staff vigilance led to a major contraband seizure at Joyceville Institution on May 15.
Officials report that seized items included tobacco, marijuana, cannabis concentrate known as “shatter,” crystal methamphetamine, an edged weapon, a cell phone, and a cell phone accessory. The estimated institutional value of the contraband is approximately $196,705.
CSC says staff continue using several security measures to prevent drugs and unauthorized items from entering federal institutions. These measures include ion scanners, detector dogs, and searches of buildings, inmates, visitors, and personal property.
Officials say CSC works closely with police agencies to investigate attempts to smuggle contraband into correctional facilities and maintain a safe environment for staff, inmates, and visitors.
The Correctional Service of Canada also operates an anonymous tip line for information related to institutional security and drug trafficking activities within federal facilities.
