Property tax rates for 2026 are set to be discussed and approved at tonight’s meeting of Gananoque Council.
A report from Treasurer John Morrison recommends maintaining the Town’s current tax ratios, which have remained unchanged since 2013. The Finance Working Group reviewed the matter and supported keeping the ratios at their existing levels for 2026.
The report outlines that the average single-family home in Gananoque, assessed at $197,000, will see its municipal tax bill increase from $3,196.42 in 2025 to $3,473.85 in 2026. That represents an increase of $277.43, or 8.68 per cent. Education tax rates remain unchanged at provincial levels, bringing the total estimated tax bill for the average home to $3,775.26.
Council will also consider a by-law establishing tax rates for residential, commercial, industrial, multi-residential and other property classes. The Town’s total 2026 tax levy, as established through the mayor’s deemed budget process, is $12.54 million.
If approved, final property tax installments will be due August 31 and October 30.
