The Township of Leeds and the Thousand Islands has recognized three local students through its annual Youth Bursary Program, presenting the awards during the June 2 Committee of the Whole meeting.
Township officials noted the program is designed to recognize young people for their academic success, leadership, volunteerism, and community involvement while helping support their post-secondary education goals.
This year’s recipients were selected from a strong field of applicants, making the decision process especially challenging.

The second-place bursary of $600 went to Asia McBride Johnston of St. Mary Catholic High School. Johnston will pursue studies in Medicine at university and intends to use the funding toward tuition expenses. When asked how she hopes to use her education and skills to give back to her community, she stated, “I hope to set up practice in TLTI once I graduate”.
