Residents and commuters who rely on the Howe Island County ferry are being reminded of the final planned service interruption associated with the ongoing ferry docks rehabilitation project.
The ferry will be out of service from 6 a.m. on Monday, June 15 until 6 a.m. on Thursday, June 18. Officials say the extended closure is required to complete the installation and refinement of the new ramp mechanism. If work is completed ahead of schedule, ferry service will resume early.
The project involves rehabilitation work at both the mainland and island ferry docks and is expected to be completed by mid-June.
During the shutdown, a mainland detour route will be clearly marked with signage, while the Township’s three-car ferry will continue operating on an extended schedule to help residents travel on and off the island.
Officials note this is the final planned closure related to the project, although unforeseen circumstances could require additional interruptions. Residents are thanked for their patience throughout the work.
