Leeds and the Thousand Islands Council will be asked to approve nearly $246,000 in capital budget transfers at its July 13 meeting to cover unexpected structural repairs at the Township Municipal Office.
According to a staff report, construction crews discovered extensive structural rot and water damage while carrying out exterior wall repairs. What was initially expected to affect only portions of the building beneath the windows was found to be much more widespread after exterior walls were opened.
If approved, the funding will be transferred from five capital projects that have been delayed until at least 2027, including work planned at Fire Stations 3 and 4, the Lyndhurst Library Parkette, the Seeley’s Bay Community Hall, and the Lansdowne Community Hall gymnasium.
Council will also be asked to sole-source $275,070.51 in additional repair work to Competitive Renovations Inc., the contractor already working on the project.
Staff say the repairs are necessary to prevent further deterioration and avoid the much higher cost of replacing the building’s windows.
