The Town of Gananoque and the Township of Leeds and the Thousand Islands have each received $221,901 in first-quarter gaming revenue from Shorelines Casino Thousand Islands.
The payment, covering the period from April 1 to June 30, was announced by the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation under its Municipality Contribution Agreement.
Since the casino opened in June 2002, each municipality has now received $34,681,693 in non-tax gaming revenue. The funding can be used to support municipal infrastructure, community programs and other local services.
Host community payments are calculated using a province-wide formula based on gaming revenue generated at each casino.
OLG says the program has provided more than $2.4 billion to host communities across Ontario since 1994. The corporation adds that all gaming profits are reinvested into the province, helping support economic development, infrastructure improvements, job creation and other public priorities.
