A Gananoque resident has been convicted following an arson investigation that began after a fire was intentionally set in December 2024.
Gananoque Police Service and Gananoque Fire Service responded in the early morning hours of December 29, 2024, after receiving a report of a fire in a yard beside a residence. Police say an investigation determined the blaze was deliberately started using homemade incendiary devices, resulting in property damage.
On December 30, 2024, a 28-year-old Gananoque resident was arrested and charged with possession of incendiary material and arson causing damage to property. The accused was held for a bail hearing.
On July 8, 2026, the individual, now 30, was convicted on both charges. The sentence includes a two-year conditional sentence order followed by three years of probation, along with a weapons prohibition.
The individual was also ordered to pay $8,115.36 in restitution.
