Two people have died following a collision involving a passenger vehicle and a transport truck on Highway 401 near Gananoque early Monday morning.
Leeds County OPP say emergency crews were called to the westbound lanes shortly after 12:30 a.m. Initial investigation indicates a transport truck was disabled on the westbound shoulder when it was struck by a westbound passenger vehicle.
Two occupants of the passenger vehicle, a 47-year-old and a 73-year-old, were pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the passenger vehicle was transported to hospital for assessment. The driver of the transport truck was not injured.
Members of the OPP Traffic Incident Management and Enforcement team assisted with the investigation, while Gananoque Police Service and the Ministry of Transportation helped manage road closures.
The westbound lanes of Highway 401 remained closed for several hours as officers investigated the collision and crews cleared the scene.
