The Town of Gananoque and the Gananoque Police Service are reminding residents that electric scooters, or e-scooters, are not currently permitted for use on public roads, sidewalks, trails or other public spaces within the Town.
Ontario introduced an e-scooter pilot program in 2020, allowing municipalities to opt in and permit their use under specific provincial rules and local regulations. Gananoque has not opted into the program.
As a result, e-scooters cannot legally operate in areas where they would otherwise be allowed under the provincial pilot.
The Town says it appreciates resident feedback on the issue and remains committed to exploring safe, accessible and sustainable transportation options.
Officials also remind residents that violations may result in penalties under the pilot regulation and the Highway Traffic Act, with fines ranging from $85 to $2,500.
