Sundance Leisure and a great crowd were on hand this past Friday night to see a first time event at the Speedway. The CRSA 305 Sprint Tour came to town and battled the best in the Panther Frameworx Crate Sprints at the Can Am Speedway this past Friday night. Which saw a big field and a great finish.
34 CRSA 305 Sprint and Panther Frameworx Crate Sprint Cars came to Can Am in hopes of making the show with 25 drivers taking the green flag for the debut event. Zach Virkler grabbed the early lead with Dalton Herrick and Dustin Sehn making up the top three spots early. Virkler and Herrick were the fastest cars on the track in the early laps as they pulled away from a solid field. On lap 6 the yellow flew for Rachel Zacharias who slowed on the track. Under the same caution Dustin Sehn and Tyler Graves both spun in turn 3. Sehn continued but Graves was pushed to the pits. This changed the top 5 as Herrick continued to lead but Zach Sobotka made his way to the front with the two drivers putting on a great show. On lap 17 that all came to an end as Herrick spun while leading, handing the lead to Sobotka, with Spencer Burley coming into the picture on the next restart. When the green flew Burley got the top spot away from Sobotka and tried to pull away, however the red flew on lap 19 for Mark Webb, who flipped in turn 4. He would walk away uninjured. On the final restart Spencer Burley would hold off a determined Zach Sobotka to record his third series win of the year. Sobotka crossed in 2nd with John Scarbourough third, Mike Stelter 4th and Can Am regular Tucker Donath 5th.
In the 15 lap Donath Motorworx Limited Sportsman, Mike Durham was looking to add to his win total in 2026 as he charged to the lead around Cayden Grahm in the early laps. Graham tried to keep pace with the leader, but Durham was quick and able to get away to a comfortable lead over Graham with Hayden Howard taking third from Jay Reid in the early laps. As the laps clicked off and without help from a Massey’s Furniture Barn Caution Flag, Mike Durham put his car on auto pilot as he ran away for his 5th win of the season and 21st overall in his Can Am career. Cayden Graham, Hayden Howard, Stephen Bushey and Jay Reid completed the top 5.
Tyler Meeks took the lead early in the 25 lap Whitesboro Plow Shop DIRTCar 358 Modified feature with Preston Forbes and Cameron Black trying to stay with him. The top three were fast, but Meeks was a bit quicker and pulled away to a comfortable advantage, while Forbes and Black tried to stay close. On lap 10 the day ended for Preston Forbes as smoke poured from the front end of his car and the caution flew. On the next restart things changed big time in the top 5. The field was coming to green when Tyler Meeks and Billy Dunn got hooked together, triggering a multi-car pile up in turn 4. Lance Willix, Genavieve Bartlett, RJ Tresidder and several others were involved. After some minor repairs all drivers made it back out including Billy Dunn, who had to come from the back to try and keep Tim Fuller close in the battle for the championship. On the restart Tim Fuller used the outside lane to take the lead from Cameron Black and start to turn in a dominant performance with last weeks winner Shaun Shaw moving to third. Billy Dunn and Lance Willix were on the move and would move into the top 5 late in the race, but had a long way to go to catch the leaders. In the end Tim Fuller would drive away to a dominant win, his third of the season and 52nd Modified win of his career. Cameron Black finished a strong 2nd with Shaun Shaw, Billy Dunn and Lance Willix the top 5.
Veteran Karl Comfort has been trying to get better at Can Am in hopes of moving back to a 358 Modified in the 2027 season at the speedway. On this night he took the lead at the drop of the green flag of the 20 lap event over Caleb Howard and Justin Gadbaw. Comfort was running strong but the yellow flew quickly for Frank Sibley who spun on the back stretch and suffered a right rear flat tire. He would come back to restart at the back of the field. When the green flew Comfort again was in control but Eric Nier was there to try and challenge for his 2nd win of the season. Comfort was not phased as he pulled away once again, as behind the top two, Caleb Howard, Owen Nier, Gavin Eisele, Jessica Power, Richard Murtaugh and Logan Brown were all in a battle for a top 5 position just past the half way point. While they tried to sort that out, Nier started to close in on the race leader and would get some help, as the yellow flew Caleb Howard, who slammed the front stretch wall. Howard was able to drive the car back to the pits but was done for the night. On the final restart Karl Comfort got away from the field leaving Eric Nier and the rest to do battle, with spots changing quickly in the final laps. The one spot that didn’t change was the lead as Karl Comfort finally scored his first ever Can Am win after many years of trying. Eric Nier crossed in 2nd with Gavin Eisele, Jessica Power and Logan Brown the top 5.
The night sponsor Sundance Leisure was excited for the final event of the night, which was the 15 lap Sundance Leisure Thundercars. Jared Gilson would charge out front early with Francis White in second, while Jock Symonds came from the back of the field to grab third. Only one caution slowed the field as Colby Hibbard slowed in turn 3 and 4. When the green flew it was Gilson in front but Jock Symonds was on a mission. He would get by Francis White for 2nd, then got by Jared Gilson for the lead on lap 6 and started to author a dominant performance. As the laps clicked off Jock Symonds would build up a lead of nearly a half track. Without a caution Jock Symonds would easily go on for his 9th win in 11 tries in 2026. Francis White, Jared Gilson, OJ White and Collin Bauter completed the top 5.
Next week it’s Ladies Night with the good people at Bob Johnson Auto Group on hand as the evenings sponsor. A full show in all five divisions will take place with the much anticipated Powder Puff highlighting the evening. Gates open at 5pm with racing starting at 7pm.
