Environment Canada has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch for Gananoque and the Thousand Islands, with conditions favourable for storms capable of producing damaging winds, large hail and heavy rainfall.
Thunderstorms are expected to develop or move into the region this afternoon and continue into this evening. Hazards include wind gusts of up to 90 kilometres per hour, hail ranging from quarter to ping-pong-ball size and locally heavy rainfall of up to 50 millimetres.
Conditions may also become favourable for an isolated tornado, although confidence in a tornado threat remains low. Utility outages and damage from strong winds, hail or heavy rain are possible.
Residents are advised to secure loose objects and take shelter indoors if threatening weather approaches. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors.
