Waterfront residents in Leeds and the Thousand Islands will have an opportunity to learn more about cottage fire safety and emergency preparedness later this month.
The Leeds 1000 Islands Fire Service and Thousand Islands Association are hosting a Dock-to-Door Fire Pump Clinic on Saturday, August 29, beginning at 9 a.m. at the Government Dock at 117 Ivy Lea Road in Ivy Lea.
Residents can attend by car, boat or on foot and speak directly with local firefighters and safety advocates.
The clinic will feature live demonstrations of fire pumps and information on selecting the right pump for waterfront properties. Firefighters will also discuss campfire safety, smoke and carbon monoxide alarm requirements, and ways to ensure emergency responders can quickly locate island properties.
Organizers are encouraging seasonal and permanent residents to attend and learn how they can better protect their families, properties and neighbours.
