The G. Tackaberry and Family Long-Term Care Home has welcomed its first residents, marking a major milestone for long-term care in Leeds and Grenville.
All 60 residents from Maple View Lodge have moved into the new, state-of-the-art home in Athens. The transition was coordinated by staff, families, volunteers and a professional healthcare relocation team to help ensure a safe and smooth move.
The new home features modern accommodations, enhanced safety features and spaces designed to support quality care, recreation, social connection and daily activities.
Warden Corinna Smith-Gatcke, Athens Mayor Herb Scott and George Tackaberry were among those on hand to welcome residents.
MPP Steve Clark said the opening is a special day for residents, families and staff, and thanked those involved in bringing the project to completion.
New residents will begin moving in today (Aug. 27th), expanding long-term care capacity in the region. A community celebration is planned for the fall once residents and staff have settled in.
