A popular Gananoque swimming spot is under a caution notice after testing found elevated levels of E. coli in the water.
The Town of Gananoque says Joel Stone Beach is currently in a Red Zone, with Southeast Public Health advising swimmers to use the beach at their own risk.
Caution signs are being posted at the waterfront site while officials continue to monitor water quality.
The notice affects the beach area only. The nearby splash pad at 135 Water Street remains open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., giving families another option to cool off without entering the river.
Washrooms at Joel Stone Park also remain available.
The Town says the length of the advisory is not yet known and updates will be provided as conditions change.
Joel Stone Beach sits along the St. Lawrence River near the municipal marina and Arthur Child Heritage Museum.
Local beaches are normally sampled weekly during the summer swimming season.
Anyone planning a trip to the beach is encouraged to check the latest water-testing results before heading into the water.
