The Gananoque Islanders U13 hockey team is inviting anglers of all ages to cast a line and support the team during its Virtual Labour Day Fishing Derby.
The derby runs from 8 a.m. on September 5 until 5 p.m. on September 6, allowing participants to fish wherever they choose and for as long as they like. Organizers say the virtual format makes the event flexible and accessible, whether participants spend a full weekend on the water or just a few minutes.
Entrants can submit up to five fish by taking a photo of each catch on a scale and sending the images to the team’s U13 Facebook page or by text message. Winners will be determined by randomly selected target weights, with the fish closest to the chosen weight without going over taking home the prize.
Registration costs $20 for adults and $10 for youth aged 16 and under.
Prizes include a YETI cooler, golf passes, fishing tackle and youth fishing packages. Proceeds support the Gananoque Islanders U13 program.
