Residents in parts of Gananoque can expect a visit from local firefighters as part of a community smoke and carbon monoxide alarm outreach program.
The Gananoque Fire Service will conduct door-to-door visits in the Booth Street, Ann Street, Albuletta Street and Queen Street areas beginning Wednesday, Sept. 23, between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. The program is being held in support of Ontario’s Test Your Smoke Alarm Day on Sept. 28 and Fire Prevention Week, running Oct. 4 to 10.
The voluntary initiative is designed to help ensure homes have properly located and functioning smoke and carbon monoxide alarms, which are required under Ontario law. With a homeowner’s permission, firefighters will answer questions, provide safety information and perform a quick visual check of alarms to identify potential concerns.
Officials say firefighters taking part will be in full Gananoque Fire Service uniforms and will be easily identifiable. If additional time is needed, outreach efforts will continue on Oct. 7.
