St. James Anglican Church in Maitland is preparing to celebrate two centuries of faith and community with a special anniversary weekend on October 17th and 18th.
Founded in 1826, the historic church will mark its 200th anniversary with two days of music, worship and fellowship, welcoming current and former parishioners and the wider community.
The celebrations begin Saturday, October 17th, at 7 p.m. with a concert featuring acclaimed Canadian organist Matthew Larkin and JUNO Award-winning soprano Kathleen Radke. Admission is by freewill offering.
Sunday’s anniversary worship service begins at 10:30 a.m., with the Right Reverend William G. Cliff, Bishop of the Diocese of Ontario, joining the celebration.
A 200th anniversary luncheon follows at noon at the Maitland Education and Recreation Centre. Tickets are $25 and must be purchased in advance.
The weekend is part of a year-long series of events honouring the church’s history and its continuing place in the Maitland community.
