The Town of Gananoque is explaining the road treatment recently applied to King Street East between Charles Street and Carmichael Drive, following questions about the material left on the roadway.
The Town says the asphalt emulsion used is similar to conventional asphalt, diluted with approximately 30 per cent water to allow it to be sprayed evenly. No additional chemicals have been added.
The sand and gravel material is manufactured washed limestone screening, an aggregate used to protect the treatment while it cures and bonds to the road surface.
The material was left in place over the weekend to allow sufficient curing time. Removing it too early could affect the treatment’s quality and longevity.
Street sweeping is now underway to remove excess aggregate. Line painting will follow once sweeping is complete.
The Town thanks residents and businesses for their patience while the road maintenance work is finished.
