Ontario is investing $750,000 in an Augusta Township industrial park study aimed at protecting local jobs from U.S. tariffs and attracting new manufacturing businesses.
The funding will support a feasibility study for the Maitland Chemical Industrial Park, helping the township assess its existing infrastructure and identify opportunities for industrial growth.
Steve Clark, MPP for Leeds-Grenville-Thousand Islands and Rideau Lakes, announced the provincial funding through Ontario’s Trade-Impacted Communities Program.
The study aims to support businesses already operating at the site, attract new investment and reduce reliance on U.S. supply chains.
Augusta Township Mayor Jeff Shaver called the funding a lifeline, saying it would help promote the industrial park to Canadian and international markets.
The province launched the $40-million program to help communities affected by global trade disruptions strengthen their economies, diversify supply chains and develop new trade partnerships.
Ontario says the initiative is part of a broader strategy to protect jobs and build a more resilient economy amid ongoing tariff pressures.
