There is a new device at Kingston Health Sciences Centre that will help patients with gastrointestinal issues.
The new Olympus TFL Premium Thulium Fibre Laser System will give the Division of Gastroenterology access to advanced laser technology for therapeutic endoscopy.
The dedicated laser system will provide surgeons with greater flexibility in scheduling and performing advanced procedures.
The new equipment was made possible from a $155,000 gift from Kingston philantropist Stephen Sorensen.
Division Head of Gastroenterology at KHSC Dr. Lawrence Hookey says this device will allow them to treat patients with large, difficult-to-treat gallstones.
Advanced therapeutic endoscopist Dr. Robert Bechara says this will also allow them to perform more minimally invasive treatments for cancer in the digestive tract.
