An Influenza A outbreak has been declared at the long-term care home at Carveth Care Centre in Gananoque.
The outbreak took effect immediately after five residents tested positive, with additional residents experiencing respiratory symptoms. Public Health has been notified, and the home is following its direction and enhanced infection prevention and control protocols.
Visitation is now restricted to essential caregivers only. Masks are required for all staff and visitors throughout the long-term care home, while residents are encouraged to wear masks when outside their rooms.
Social outings are strongly discouraged, and non-essential appointments are restricted. Dining room services and activation programs will continue with appropriate precautions in place.
Carveth Care Centre stresses that these restrictions apply only to the long-term care home. The retirement lodge continues to operate as usual.
The home is thanking residents, families and visitors for their patience and cooperation as it works to protect residents and staff.
