Area police forces continue to remind people to protect their pin. The latest scam making the rounds in the area has cost victims thousands of dollars. The scam involves 2 people, usually a man and a woman, who work together and usually target senior women. One suspect, usually the female, stands in line behind the victim as they enter their PIN at check-out. The second suspect is waiting in the parking lot to approach the victim and tell them they dropped $20. Often, the victim will take out their wallet to check to see if any cash is missing. If they don’t, they are encouraged by the suspect to check their wallet. When the wallet is opened, the suspect is able to discreetly take the credit or debit card which was just used inside the store. Once the victim leaves the area, the suspects quickly make numerous withdrawals of cash at nearby ATMs. There have also been instances where they will give you the money, but then claim it was a mistake and ask for it back. Police are reminding everyone to always protect your pin number and be wary of strangers approaching you in store parking lots.
