Really, with school back in session it is common for kids to get injured in ways parents may not be thinking of.
Cuts are the most common injury from working with arts and crafts materials with dangers increasing with younger children who may have a habit of putting items in their mouth.
Some general safety tips involve having full knowledge of how to do that craft you are working on, look into the potential hazards before you try new arts and crafts materials, keep materials in their original containers, do arts and crafts in an area where the air circulates well, and using protective equipment if needed
They also recommend keeping kids away from paint not labelled as safe for kids, powdered clays and paints, stained glass, craft dyes and boric acid.
